Frequently Asked
What are the dimensions of your Portable Electric Cable Support Tower (cord trees)?
Our standard cable tower base weighs 75 lbs. and is 23” in diameter with a 6” height for the standard model. The heavy-duty model base weighs 150 lbs. and is 23” in diameter and 20” total in height. The telescoping pole is 2” in diameter and can reach up to 10 ft. in height on both models.
Why do I need a Portable Electric Cable Support Tower?
NEC codes and OSHA regulations require all electric cables, cords, and hoses to be elevated away from possible human contact on a job site, preventing electric shock or tripping hazards. Your company could be subject to substantial fines and lawsuits for not complying with these regulations, ranging from $16,131 to $161,131 per violation, depending on the severity and whether it’s a repeat violation (see OSHA regulations 29 CFR 1910.334(c)(3) and 29 CFR 1926.405(j)(1)(v)).
Can’t I just build my own wooden cable towers onsite?
Jury-rigged towers are time-consuming to construct and spend expensive labor hours on something that’s disposable and likely single-use. They’re difficult to relocate or reuse, and of course, made of wood, which conducts electricity when wet. The nails or nuts and bolts used will also conduct electricity, which defeats the whole purpose of cable safety. Jerry-built towers are disposable and will need to be rebuilt at every site. Our cable support towers are purchased once and can be used over and over again at job after job.
Will your cable support towers conduct electricity?
No. The weight base is made of recycled scrap tire rubber, the telescoping poles are made of FRP – Fiberglass Reinforced Post – Pultruded fiberglass, the antlers are safety yellow HDPE plastic and the mounting slip sleeve is plastic. We do use a metal safety D Ring to hold the post in position when raised so the post will not slam down when weight is added, but it is surrounded by nonconductive fiberglass.
How many cable support towers will I need?
We recommend spacing our PECSTs 10 feet apart at close to maximum height or load. Take your total run of power cables and divide by 10 to get an approximation of the number of towers you’ll need. Lighter loads could be spaced farther apart.
How much weight will your cable support hold?
We’ve tested both standard and heavy-duty towers to hold up to 100 pounds per antler. The heavy-duty base is especially useful for extra stability if you plan on loading close to the limit or extending the pole close to its max height.
Are your Portable Electric Cable Support Towers truly made in the USA?
We are the only true U.S. manufacturer of recycled material cable towers (or cord trees). We source all our recycled materials domestically, which means we’re helping clean up our backyard. We also design and manufacture all our products right here in Western New York, because we believe in American ingenuity and hardworking American hands.
