Federal Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) regulations require that a containment area has enough capacity for at least 10% of the total volume of the all the containers within the facility, or 110% of the volume of the largest container, whichever is greater. Failure to comply can lead to fines and disciplinary actions. Protecting your workers, neighbors, and the environment is also just the right thing to do. What type of liquid will your rubber spill berms contain

RubberForm uses EPDM rubber for our spill berm. Please review numerous, Rubber Elastomer Chemical Resistance Charts that are online to determine if the EPDM rubber compound will work for your onsite liquid. Consult with your P.E. or engineer to verify. RubberForm has free of charge self-certification spill berm testing kits so your team can self-certify if your liquid will not penetrate the EPDM rubber. Your team will need to determine the timeframe a spill would be detected in your facility and how long the EPDM rubber would be exposed to your liquid to self-certify that the EPDM rubber is sufficient.

What if the berm is not fabricated right and a measurement is wrong? Who pays for that and who is responsible?

Too much can go wrong and has gone wrong without a drawing done by our team. The drawing needs to be approved by the customer with written proof and signed off before we start.

What is the โ€œSpill Containment Border Layout Check Charge-RFโ€ fee for?

RubberForm needs to have you approve the spill berm containment layout for your secondary containment berm based on your requirements which is drawn up by RubberFormโ€™s SolidWorks CAD designer. Your approval is needed before we custom fabricate in plant at RubberFormโ€™s facility where we will custom-build to your spill berm layout specifications. This CAD drawing is used to fabricate in our plant and for your installation crew at your facility. Our RubberForm team will also lay out the completed fabricated berm system to double check that the berm is fabricated as drawn and approved by you.

Can I cut your rubber berm and fabricate myself?

Yes, however we do not recommend it. 99% of RubberFormโ€™s spill berm customers have our team fabricate in our factory for ease of installation and reducing onsite, installation hassles. โ€จIf your team wants to fabricate onsite, you must us the proper saws - blades, drill bits and finishing tools. You will need a horizontal band saw or radial arm or chop saw with the proper saw blade, drill bits, ______ bits, and more. We offer an installation guide, so if you need to or want to, you can fabricate and install on-location.

Which spill berm is best for me?

The EPA/DEC have guidelines for this SPCC โ€“ Spill Containment Counter Measure requirement. Based on the SPCC requirement, you need to contain 110% of the stored liquids on premise, 110% of the largest container in a specific area or 10% of all the containers in a specific area. Please consult with a qualified SPCC engineer specialist to make sure your company is compliant. We have a spreadsheet that provides a rough estimate of the height and containment size โ€“ berm area you will need. Please consult with your licensed professional engineer/P.E. or environmental expert for certification and full SPCC requirements.

How many bolts do you recommend for the spill containment berm?

We recommend bolting down every 1 ยฝโ€™ to 2โ€™. Our rubber berms must be sealed/caulked/glued down as well. However please consult with your P.E. and engineer for your specific project requirements for certification. ADD CHART FOR HOLES PER 10-foot section.

What is the turnaround time for these spill berms?

Depending on the spill berm type, size, complexity, and the amount of fabrication we will be doing in our factory, this can range from 1 week to 3 weeks. Please email us your drawings and requirements so we can quote and provide a better timeframe for fabrication and delivery.

Do we need to bolt and glue our berm down?

Yes, most definitely glue/seal/caulk and bolt down your berm down. This creates the seal for the spill berm area. Not all surfaces are level, and the glue/sealer/caulk should fill in the holes or gaps on the surface. We also recommend bolting down as well as glue/seal/caulk in place; however, this is up to the customer and your P.E./engineerโ€™s recommendation. If your area cannot be leveled or smoothed out, please repair before berm installation. If it is in a high traffic area, we highly recommend bolting and sealing/caulking/adhering in place. Please consult with your engineer as floor surface inside the berm area may need to be sealed as well.

How tall of a spill berm do I need?

According to the rules governed by the EPAโ€™s SPCC, your spill containment berm needs to hold more than 110% of the total liquid stored on your location. You would need to engineer the volume of liquid that fits into the square foot area you have to work with. I need to drive in and out of the containment area. Do you offer a ramp solution for a drive-in containment area?

Yes. We have a few different solutions for this drive-over berm scenario. We have a drive-over ramp that can be attached to our 4โ€ and 6โ€ spill berm, or a 1-7/8โ€ and 3โ€ berm bump that you can drive over with a tow-motor/forklift or other vehicle. Proper mounting to the surface is must so please let our product specialist know the type of vehicle that will drive over these berm bumps. We have numerous type of lag bolt mounting systems available. Weโ€™d be glad to help you with this over a quick phone call!

What size of spill containment berm/dikes does RubberForm offer?

We offer 5 sizes of spill berm and spill dikes very chemical resistant materials. Our extruded TPV spill berms are 2โ€ x 2โ€, 4โ€ x 4โ€, 6โ€ x 6โ€, 8โ€ x 8โ€these are all extruded in 8โ€™ lengths the 2โ€ is pyramid design and the remainder are T shaped. Our 2โ€ and 3โ€ high drive over berm, are also made of TPV composite material and are in various lengths, for garage doors, 8, 10, 12, 14 and custom lengths available.

Do you offer custom fabrication services - cutting and mounting hole drilling - or will I have to do it myself?

RubberForm recommends we fabricate in our plant before shipping to you and we have a custom fabrication service department โ€“ cutting and drilling these spill containment products. Our team will custom fabricate per your specific requirements and layout for your spill containment project. There is a charge for this custom fabrication service which will be quoted so you will know the exact custom fabrication fees.
