We didn’t invent making products from recycled tire rubber and recycled plastic. But we’re a team of innovators at heart, so we’re perfecting it every day. More and more companies, organizations, and governmental bodies are using recycled safety products every day. This article will explain why so many of them are choosing RubberForm.

Why use recycled materials?

Pretty much any of our recycled products, including our 100% recycled sign bases and bollard bases, could be made from virgin rubber and plastic. We use recycled material instead because we’re committed to cleaning up our shared backyard.

Every sign or bollard base we sell means more rubber or plastic destined for a landfill was instead reused in a product that makes all our lives better. We want our kids and grandkids to have green grass, clean water, and clear air to enjoy, even more than we had. That’s why we’re innovating every day to use 100% American recycled materials in more effective ways.

According to the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), 79% of end-of-life tires (ELT) are recycled annually. We’re proud to have been a part of hitting that number and want to push it even higher. We use tires and other post-consumer rubber along with post-industrial plastics in our sign bases, speed cushions, trackout control mats, and spill containment berms. That means instead of sitting in a landfill, it’s keeping folks safe on the road, in parking lots, construction sites, and industrial facilities.

How to turn waste into worth?

We’ve innovated every day at RubberForm to achieve a zero waste facility. That means we use everything we bring in and don’t create any waste ourselves. It’s the same energy we put into turning times and other waste into heavy-duty sign bases.

Our sign bases begin life humbly: scrap tire crumb rubber, use conveyor belts, even bits from chopped up computer boards. Our domestic supplier meticulously cleans and shreds this rubber into small, manageable pieces. We take these bits and blend them with recycled plastics and binding agents to form our specially engineered composite material.

This material is tough enough to withstand the searing heat, the freezing cold, and even physical impacts from vehicle traffic. We then compress or inject the composite material into a mold, or extrude it through a die into its final shape. Instead of filling up a dump, this recycled rubber and plastic is now saving lives. Everybody wins.

Sign bases by the numbers

Our RubberForm Recycled rubber sign bases are made with 100% American recycled tire rubber. Each base diverts 5 tires from a landfill. If you add the optional 75-pound base weight, it diverts an additional 5 more tires. That means every base saves more than a car’s worth of tires with every purchase. A base + base weight saves two and a half car’s worth!

Our recycled rubber and plastic products fill a unique niche: meeting the requirements for the ARRA 2009 and Buy American acts, while also providing LEED sustainability points toward your green building LEED certification. Fulfill your corporate sustainability mission while also buying American. We love using American ingenuity and grit to clean up our shared backyard!

Why choose our sign bases?

Our eco-friendly sign bases are made with our extra-durable recycled composite material. It won’t chip, crack, crumble, or corrode in any heat, cold, rain, ice, or snow. It lasts years and years, even under heavy use.

But we also innovate in the design itself. Our sign bases have a low center of gravity that makes them resistant to tipping over in the wind. For extra windy areas, you can add our sign base weight for even more wind resistance.

Most competing sign bases are square or octagonal, meaning they require attached wheels or a cart to move. Our sign base is round, which means you can tip it over and roll it to relocate with ease. This makes it perfect for Curbside-To-Go operations that need quick setup and teardown. It also makes it easy to reconfigure the signage in your parking lot as needed.

And if you’d like a one stop shop (what we call a 360 degree solution), we offer recycled sign posts and even recycled aluminum signs to complete the package!

RubberForm Portable Sign Bases:

  • Are wind resistant due to low center of gravity
  • Won’t warp, spall, crack, or crumble
  • Are simple to install, remove, and relocate

Beautify your parking lot

In addition to our portable sign bases, we have portable fillable sign bases, made with a strong recycled plastic mold. These have attached wheels for easy relocation and come with a special gel for filling that won’t freeze in the frigid cold. Our fillable bases are perfect for beautifying your parking lot on a budget.

We also have portable bollard bases that use the same round base as our portable signs. They’re perfect for protecting pedestrians and parking spot demarcation, and just like our sign bases, they can tip and roll to relocate with ease.

Parking lots tend to be boring and unattractive, but we have all the accessories you need to beautify and brand your lot. You might just end up loving it more than your building. For our sign bases we have sign base covers. These come in a few standard colors, but we can also make them in your custom colors with a minimum order. Our bollard covers are similar, increasing bollard visibility or even branding them with your custom colors with a minimum order.

Our favorite piece of a fully branded parking lot is our wheel stop with color polygons. They come in standard colors like safety yellow, polar white, handicap blue, emergency red, and eco green. You can code your parking spots so your handicap, emergency vehicle, or EV charging spots are obvious even in snow or poor visibility. But our patented color polygons can also be printed in your custom colors, with your custom logo, or both!

Combined with our portable sign and bollard bases, you can create an incredible branded customer experience from parking to purchase. All of our products are made with the same care and tough durability to last you years and years of use.

Sign bases that matter

With 100% recycled materials and a zero-waste process, we ensure that each sign base we make is only helping our world, not hurting it in any way. Sourcing all our materials domestically means for each sign base you purchase, you’re helping clean up the places where you live, work, and play.

Sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated. Our recycled rubber sign bases are sturdy, durable, and blessedly convenient to use. When you’re ready to use the most sustainable signage solution in America, give us a call.

FAQS

What's the difference between your sign base and the plastic one I've seen for sale elsewhere?

The plastic knock-off you’ve seen is blow-molded, thin-walled plastic. That saves a lot of money for the manufacturer, but means it will break the first time it tips over or is ever so gently nudged by a vehicle. It also can crack open the first time it freezes, even without any collision. Our sign base won’t tip over even in heavy wind, and won’t chip, crack, crumble, or corrode in extreme weather or due to vehicle collision.

How portable are your sign bases?

They’re so easy to move your grandparents could do it. Simply tip the base over on its bottom side edge and roll it into position (that’s why our base is round!). Grab the top of the signpost and push/roll it into the top of the base. If you need a cart to move, we have two sign base carts: one for our 72-pound sign base and another for our 150-pound sign base w/base weight. No need for mounted wheels that will eventually rust or break off.

Why are your sign bases round instead of octagonal?

Two reasons: our round sign bases can be rolled on their side, which is why we call them portable. Octagonal sign bases can’t. But our round design is also more stable in high-wind conditions. The center of gravity is lower than any octagonal design we’ve seen. In side-by-side comparisons some of our customers have actually done, the round sign base always stays upright longer in heavy wind.

What is the turnaround time to ship your sign base?

Our sign bases are usually in stock on the shelf and can be shipped out the following business day. Larger orders (greater than 1,000 sign bases) will take longer. Let us know your timetables and we’ll work to accommodate your delivery needs.
