What’s the Big Deal about ‘Buying American?’

Date: September 11, 2019 | Category: Construction, Industrial, Municipal, Parking Lot Safety

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” [George Bernard Shaw]

As you research products, stop to consider what’s important to you.  Look at the labels of the items you buy.

  • Are these products made in America?
  • Are they made by American companies?  If not, who and what are you supporting?
  • Are the products foreign imports?  (Now, it may be that the only products available in your area are foreign made, so your options about what the purchase could be limited.)
  • Are the products made from recycled material? If so, where does the recycled material come from?  Hopefully from within the borders of the United States.

Contact the company to ask them the above questions. As you explore a buying-only-American lifestyle, you will surely confront the price issue—after all foreign-made products often seem cheaper.  But in the long-term, will you save any money? ‘Buy American’ continues to be an important issue for many people frustrated by loss of jobs and the influx of poor-quality products. A blog from americanmanufacturing.org led to another article: “The Made-in-China Bay Bridge Continues to Cost California.” That story looks at the decision to hire an untested company from China to build key parts of the suspension span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. An article in the Sacramento Bee chronicled the faulty construction of the bridge’s suspension span. There have been significant quality control lapses causing serious delays and huge cost over-runs. Experts who supervised the construction told the Sacramento Bee that the $6.5 billion dollar bridge will likely require costly remedial maintenance.

Not only is RubberForm a U.S.A. company, our products are also made from recycled materials. We’re creating new, high-quality products out of potentially hazardous waste products such as scrap tire rubber and we’re also using recycled plastic we see filling blue bins every week.  By doing what we do, we put fellow Americans to work and we’re using recycled scrap from our country —keeping these materials out of American landfills. Furthermore, RubberForm prides itself on innovative practices that follow strict manufacturing protocols. We support American manufacturing and American workers by providing a safe working environment and we conscientiously embrace our country’s labor laws.

Can you make a difference? Absolutely! Do your homework, ask questions, do your research, educate yourself and others around you. Don’t let the sticker price be your only consideration. With the proper research and educated choices, we can choose the best recycled material products for our homes and businesses.

Outfit your school with parking lot & road safety equipment

Date: August 20, 2019 | Category: Parking Lot Safety

With the school year quickly approaching, it is critical that the school addresses the safety of their students, staff and parents picking up their children within their parking lots. These lots are often hectic and stressful areas. People and cars mixed together can become a recipe for disaster if the parking lot is not outfitted with road safety equipment and proper signage.

Go green!

Green technology is very important in today’s society to protect our environment. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! Schools need to incorporate recycled products into their everyday routines to teach their students the importance of utilizing recycled materials. Parking lot safety equipment, such as the Parking and Road Safety line from RubberForm, is the ideal solution to protect your students, faculty, parents, visitors and of course the environment. Our products are made of 100% recycled rubber and plastic that offer an environmentally friendly alternative to other parking lot products. We promise our products will not only last long, but serve and protect better than their standard counterparts like concrete.

Safety in your parking lot

Safety equipment utilized correctly can not only increase parking lot safety, but improve the flow of traffic and reduce pick up times. Portable sign bases are an ideal solution to mark designated pick-up areas, caution drivers of pedestrians, and post speed limits within the parking lot. Highly visible wheel stops ensure drivers do not drive into unauthorized areas or onto walkways. Speed bumps are critical to ensuring drivers to drive slowly. Delineator curb systems are the perfect solution to channel traffic, as well as separate area of the parking lot. They can also be easily collapse when not in use.

Appearing At Levi’s Stadium In California: The Backstory

Date: September 20, 2017 | Category: Parking Lot Safety
Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA

It’s always gratifying to see RubberForm’s recycled rubber products in action, and the bigger the stage, the more exciting the experience. On June 29, 2017, we had an important supporting role in a dress rehearsal for one of the premier venues in the country—the new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

This new home for the San Francisco 49ers opened with a pre-season game against Denver Broncos on August 17, 2017.  To prepare, the City of Santa Clara, the Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority and a team officials held a dry run to look at pedestrian and traffic flow. This included, parking and other issues that may arise when 70,000 fans converge on the stadium. Our sign bases and sign base weights were right in the middle of it all!

There, our sign bases and added base weights were directing doing the following: VTA Transit pedestrian traffic, helping people get from Point A to Point B, and generally contributing to visitor safety and well being. It’s something we see RubberForm sign bases doing in other parking lots and high-traffic sites all across the country. And just like any proud stage parent, we find the performance never gets old. That’s because we can’t help but remember how far all our recycled rubber products have come to get where they are now.

After all, it wasn’t so long ago that those sign bases were at the end of their careers as scrap tires. They were headed to a landfill or scrap tire processing plant somewhere in the United States. But where other people might have seen ugly piles of scrap tires, we saw great potential. We took tons of scrap tire crumb rubber, which is ground up scrap tires, and ran it through our innovative recycling rubber molding plant to produce environmentally friendly products that still have their very best years ahead of them!

True, our products aren’t the headliners at the places they appear (sort of like actors you always recognize but can’t name). RubberForm is frequently cast when traffic and parking lot safety is a major concern. Along with our sign bases, we also have products playing at road constructionindustrial, hospitality and marine locations.

No, people won’t go to Levi’s Stadium to see our sign bases. But that doesn’t lessen our pride in being there…or any other of the thousands of places that RubberForm products appear. They’re helping travelers reach their destinations, protecting property and lives, and ensuring that people have a better time. All while making the world a little greener. As far as we’re concerned, that’s the role of a lifetime.

Why Rubber Wheel Stops Over Concrete Parking Stops?

Close up image of a RubberForm Wheel Stop

Parking Lot Wheel Stops are installed in many parking lots large and small to help in ensuring vehicles come to a stop and prevent damage to buildings, sidewalks, curbs and delicate landscapes. While we call these products Wheel Stops, they are also often referred to recycled wheel stops, car stops, parking curbs, parking bumpers, parking blocks and everything in-between. In the past, concrete was the go-to material for these parking curb products, but they are being replaced with more durable and environmental friendly materials like our Recycled Rubber Wheel Stops.

A forklift, Bobcat, or front loader are generally the recommended method to install a concrete wheel stop into position. Often requiring 2 or more people to move it into its final location, resulting in high installation costs. Weighing in at only 38 pounds, a RubberForm Wheel Stop can be unloaded, set into place, and installed by just one person. If one of our Rubber Wheel Stops happens to slip off of a pallet it will not chip, crack, break or potentially injure the person moving them. Something that can happen with concrete parking blocks.

All of RubberForm’s Wheel Stops are made from 100% post-consumer recycled scrap tire rubber, diverting 4 tires from being sent to a landfill for each Wheel Stop that RubberForm manufactures. Concrete is not recyclable and more susceptible to damage. Once damaged, it needs to be removed and thrown out. The Rubber Wheel Stops are made with the used, scrap tires from your car! Our Rubber Wheel Stops also carry a product lifetime warranty! They won’t break, chip or crack if they get hit by a car. Their molded in plastic colored polygons offer additional visibility.
